The Almansor Center's Day School Program provides basic education, related services and enrichment activities. We serve children 2 1/2 through 18, as well as young adults who require prevocational and independent living skills training. Almansor offers courses leading to completion of high school requirements and graduation. In addition, Almansor offers small group and individualized related services. These services, designed to strengthen the overall effectiveness of these students' educational program, include:
Speech/Language, Physical, Occupational Therapy and Counseling
Licensed specialists consult with staff as well as parents. Children see licensed specialists for consultation and/or individual or small group therapy as required by the child's individual education plan or individual family service plan. Specialists provide information and techniques to enhance each child's social, motor and communication development and work with classroom teachers to enable teachers and parents to incorporate these strategies into the class and home. All services are provided on site allowing for coordination of services and minimizing stress on the consumer.
Adaptive Physical Education
This specialized physical education program is available for children 3-8 who require modified motor development activities as part of their individual education program. The emphasis of this program is on attending drills, basic loco-motor skills, sensory system development— visual, proDrioception, tactile, auditory—body awareness, and social awareness through movement.
Care Giver/Parent Education, Counseling, Support Groups
Parents of children attending the Center's programs as well as the general public are welcome to attend these programs designed to empower parents to take charge of their own parenting abilities and use them to the fullest. The programs provide resources to parents who are respected as active and necessary contributors and participants in their children's process.
Parent Involvement
Parents care/providers and other family members are fully included in the child's program providing families with opportunities to set goals and implement intervention techniques to maximize their child's full potential. Frequent contact with parents through phone calls, notes home, volunteering and parent conferences is encouraged. The Almansor Center Parent Advisory Council (TAC-PAC) holds monthly events for families, supports staff, and provides families with a vehicle to impact the Center's policies and procedures.
